Marking settings - Mark strictly with commas (,) and punctuations (.)

  • What does this setting do?

The setting allows you to limit students from receiving points if they add a comma instead of a punctuation, or the other way around.

If the setting "Mark strictly with commas (,) and punctuations (.)" is inactive, the marking will not differentiate between commas and punctuations.

    Example

For example, if "4.5" is the correct answer to a question and the "mark strictly" function is activated, the students will not be given points if they instead use a comma (4,5).

If the setting is disabled, the auto marking will also allow commas, giving students points for both 4,5, and 4.5 (see the pictures below).

If you are instead looking to allow students to write both with and without punctuation in the student answers, you must add both versions as correct answers. Read more about this in this article: Marking setting - Give students points with/without punctuation
